Thomas McKenzie set a single-game CIFL record with 5.5 sacks in his first game with Fort Wayne, leading the FireHawks to a 48-0 win against the Chicago Cardinals to conclude the CIFL regular season Saturday night at the Odeum Sports Complex in Villa Park, Ill.

Broderick Johnson added 3.5 sacks and when David Hines forced quarterback Gabriel Baker to fumble with 12 seconds remaining, the FireHawks tied the single-game sack record of 9 set by the Lehigh Valley Outlaws in 2006.

The FireHawks scored five of their seven touchdowns on returns by the defense and special teams.  Terry Moore started the scoring with a 48-yard interception return 1:22 into the game.  Tramaine Billie returned a missed field goal and an interception for a touchdown, Brandon Williams had a fumble return for a touchdown, and Mike Tatum returned another missed field goal for a touchdown.

McKenzie and Tatum are two of the players who came to Fort Wayne after the Marion Mayhem ceased operations, helping the FireHawks record the sixth shutout in CIFL history and second this season.

The win improves Fort Wayne to 6-4 as the FireHawks enter the CIFL playoffs as the No. 3 seed.  Fort Wayne will travel to play the No. 2 seed Wisconsin Wolfpack (8-2) at Hartmeyer Arena in Madison on Saturday, June 19.

The top-seeded Cincinnati Commandos (9-1) will host the No. 4 seed Miami Valley Silverbacks (4-6) in the other playoff game at the Cincinnati Gardens on Friday, June 18. The Cardinals finish the 2010 season with an 0-10 record.
