Cardinals sign new kicker

The Chicago Cardinals of the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) are pleased to announce the signing of our first female professional player, kicker Julie Harshbarger. Julie has won a starting job on the Cardinals roster. She will be starting in her first game April 17th, 2010, at the Odeum in Villa Park as the Chicago Cardinals take on the Miami Valley Silverbacks.

A graduate of Benedictine University with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, she was a two year letter winner for the Benedictine Eagles. As a senior in 2007, Harshbarger was selected on the All-Northern Athletics Conference second team. She had five goals and led the Benedictine team with seven assists. She transferred to Benedictine between her sophomore and junior year. Prior to that, she played two seasons at Rockford College 2004-05. All-Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference honors both years with Rockford College.

CIFL Weekly Preview

Two games on the schedule this weekend as the CIFL enters week five. On Friday night, the Wisconsin Wolfpack (1-1) will visit the Fort Wayne FireHawks (1-1) as the winner will move into a second place tie with the Marion Mayhem at 2-1. The Mayhem have the week off, along with the league leading Cincinnati Commandos (4-0). The Silverbacks (0-3) and Cardinals (0-2) look to get out of the winless column Saturday night in Villa Park, Ill.

CIFL Players of the Week

The Continental Indoor Football League is pleased to announce the players of the week. The awards are based on play from the weekend of April 10.

Offensive Player of the Week

Kota Colors, Fort Wayne - Colors, making his FireHawks debut, completed 17 passes for 200 yards and seven touchdowns to lead Fort Wayne to their first win of the season over Miami Valley 44-28. Colors would also add 49 yards on eight carries. Up 10 in the fourth, Colors recorded his seventh touchdown pass to put the game away, a 29-yard strike to Jermaine Woolfolk.

Defensive Player of the Week

James Spikes, Cincinnati - The Commandos have the defensive player of the week for the second time this season as James Spikes wins the award. Spikes recorded five tackles, three for loss, a forced fumble and two sacks of Wolfpack quarterback Dan Roberts. Cincinnati improved to 4-0 with the 48-26 win.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Brandon Wogoman, Chicago - Wogoman used his return skills in the 19-14 loss to the Mayhem on Saturday night. Wogoman had 146 yards on five returns, for a 29-yard average.
